By the sacred anointing of the sick and the prayer of the priests, the whole Church commends those who are ill to the suffering and glorified Lord, that He may raise them up and save them on the last day, in addition to exhorting them to unite their sufferings to the Cross and thereby contribute to the good of the People of God. This sacrament is available to schedule prior to major surgery or in the case of serious illness.
