Meet Our Pastoral Council

Kevin Barry- My wife, Mary, and I have been parishioners at Annunciation BVM for close to 6 years now! A native of Chicago, IL, I fell in love with our Faith in college at the University of Colorado at Boulder. I worked for the Archdiocese of Denver's summer program, Totus Tuus, which also was John Paul II's papal motto, where I met Mary. I also worked for Christ in the City in Denver immediately following graduation. Before moving to the Philly area, I worked for the John Paul II Outdoor Lab, which provided outdoor education to middle schoolers with a vision of Faith and Science complementing each other. I am so honored to help serve our parish and assist in Fr. Loomis' ministry in bringing the light of Christ and His Church to Havertown. Email: Kevinptbarry@gmail.com

Jericha Dethlefs- My wonderful husband, Eric, and I are blessed with four incredible children- Jonas, Guinevere, Aurelia, and Margalo- and a miniature Australian Shepherd named Cash. We have been parishioners at ABVM for two years and are very grateful to call this our church home. In addition to homeschooling our children and homemaking, I am also a vocalist, a teacher and administrator for our homeschool co-op, a hobby artist, an avid baker, and have recently accepted the role of Director of Media Relations here at ABVM. In my “free time”, you’ll find me cooking with Eric in our kitchen for all of our friends and family, reading to my children, doing anything music related, learning homesteading skills, sewing, writing, and tending to my sourdough starter (named “Blanche”) . Elliot Drago- A proud parishioner at Annunciation for nine years. My wife, Vanessa, and I have two wonderful children. Annunciation is our spiritual home, and we are so blessed to share the same air with so many dedicated and compassionate parishioners. I am the Resident Historian and Editorial Manager at the Jack Miller Center, a civic education nonprofit dedicated to the teaching of America's founding principles and history. As a member of the Pastoral Council, I will devote my passion for Christ to helping my fellow parishioners feel welcome, valued, and supported in their spiritual journey. I look forward to listening to you and working with you! Email: Elliott.drago@gmail.com

Michael Finnegan- I am a life long parishioner of Annunciation BVM and proud alumni of Annunciation school. I am married to Maureen and have 6 children, Ryan, Maeve, Colin, Shane, Kathryn, and Aidan.

John Kirkland- I grew up in the area, attending St. Anastasia Elementary, Cardinal O'Hara H.S. & Villanova University. After college, I spent a year with the Jesuit Volunteer Corps working with the homeless in Buffalo and continued in that work when I returned to Philadelphia. My wife Jen and I have lived in Havertown since being married in 1996. We became parishioners of ABVM, but switched to St. Denis, after moving to another part of Havertown, and eventually found our way back to ABVM in 2016. We have 3 college aged children, 2 dogs and several chickens. I am on the board of the Haverford Twp. Historical Society and help run its annual Heritage Festival. During the day I test software for a stock trading firm in the area. I enjoy working with my hands, volunteering, and learning as much as I can about the faith.

Mountain MacGillivray - Member of Annunciation since 2018. Married to Grace and father to 8: Chiara, Mary Brigid, Sean, Catherine, Joseph, Theresa and Emily. I am the Head Women’s Basketball Coach at La Salle University. I grew up in Our Lady of Lourdes Parish, went to Carroll and graduated from Temple. Fellow Parishioner and my uncle David Coppa invited me to join Annunciation when I moved back from living 11 years in New England. I have taught in Catholic Elementary schools and worked for Generation Life doing Pro-life and Chastity education. Email: macgillivray@lasalle.edu

Ana Fernandez-Parmet - ABVM Parishioner for 7 years. My husband Mike and I have been married for 36 years. We have five grown children and four grandchildren. Two of our sons are seminarians for the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. I am a daily communicant and absolutely love our parish community of ABVM. I am the Tuesday morning sacristan and it has been a joy to actively participate in the preparation for the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. Email: afparmet@parmetech.com

Abe Schneider - I joined Annunciation in 2021 when we moved to Havertown. I live on Kenmore Road with my wife, Katie, and our two sons, Nicholas (3) and William (1), and we enjoy walking to Mass. I went to law school at Villanova and am a practicing attorney. The Schneider family are avid gardeners (especially flowers for the Blessed Virgin Mary) and love all things Havertown. I look forward to serving on the council. Email: Abraham.C.Schneider@gmail.com

What is the Role and Function of the Parish Pastoral Council?

The Parish Pastoral Council is an advisory body working in consultation with the Pastor. It is the main group to

which the Pastor turns for recommendations and evaluations on pastoral planning. Although the

Pastoral Council does not manage ministries or programs, nor determine financial structures or expenditures for the parish, it does work closely with the parish staff and the finance council to carry out the mission of the parish.

Overall, PPC assesses the parish’s current status and envisions its future needs and goals. The Council considers

possible changes given developing priorities in line with the parish pastoral plan. The Pastor advises the PPC

concerning Archdiocesan pastoral priorities and how they might be implemented within the parish.

They assist the pastor in assessing the needs and concerns, as well as the gifts and resources, of the parish and its members in setting goals and offering recommendations as ABVM strives to become a community of intentional disciples, evangelizers, and stewards. The parish council seeks consensus decision making whenever possible.
