Testimony – 35 years ago, I served on NET Ministries and it was the most significant year of my life. Mark Berchem was one of the founders of NET. A number of folks from this region have served on NET – Chris Perry, Greg Guerin, Greg Merena (Ann Steven’s brother), Michele Volk, Grace Galligan, Alex Parmet.

Mark was born and raised in St. Paul, Minnesota. He attended the University of Minnesota and studied social work. Mark received his Bachelor of Science Degree summa cum laude. Two years later, he was granted his Master's Degree in social work from the same university. Mark completed a second Master’s Degree in Theological Studies from the University of Dallas.
Mark has been active in youth ministry since 1972 and began full-time ministry in 1978 at the former St. Paul Catholic Youth Center. Mark is the Founder of NET Ministries, Inc., which he founded in 1981. In the last 43 years, Mark and his staff have successfully trained and sent out over 3,500 young adults to share the Gospel with over two million Catholic youth. In 2020, NET Ministries was awarded the Poverello Medal from the Franciscan University of Steubenville in recognition of NET’s important contributions to the Church’s mission of evangelization. Mark feels that it is a privilege to help young people experience an awakening of faith and grow in living as disciples of Jesus Christ.
Mark lives in St. Paul, Minnesota with his wife, Mary. They have four children, five grandchildren and are active members of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and the Community of Christ the Redeemer, a Private Association of Christian Faithful. Mark currently serves as the chair of the National Advisory Council for the USCCB. Mark’s book Step Up Dad strives to inspire men to take a more active role in the lives of their children. In his spare time, he enjoys hiking, camping, fishing and ice hockey.
